Was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2003
Bhilai, Mar 16, 2019: Renowned exponent of Pandwani – Dr Teejan Bai received India’s second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, from the President of India Ram Nath Kovind at a gracious ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday. For the ‘Padma’ awards this year, 112 people were selected. Pandwani is a traditional performing art form of Chhattisgarh, in which Dr Teejan Bai enacts takes from Mahabharata with musical accomplishments.
It needs to be mentioned here that Dr Teejan Bai is an inspirational personality for the entire society. Her life struggle, dedication and commitment encourage all to make efforts for working better to progress life. The entire Bhilai fraternity has been honoured with Padma Vibhushan award to Teejan Bai.
After receiving the award, Teejan Bai expressed gratitude towards Bhilai Steel Plant for its valuable support. She added that whatever she achieved is due to Bhilai Steel Plant. The organization always supported her in performing at Lok Kala Mahotsavas and other stages in the country and abroad. She thanked the entire Bhilai Fraternity for the love, respect and support which made her touch new heights in life.
