In the high profile seat of Patan, Congress State President Bhupesh Baghel was in direct contest with BJP parachute candidate Motilal Sahu. Patan is basically a rural constituency with highest number of peasants as voters. The alluring promises made in the Congress Manifesto of Rs 2500 MSP for paddy; loan waiver and two years pending bonus within ten days of formation of Congress government played a game changer for Bhupesh.
Here counting was conducted in 19 rounds out of which result of 16 rounds was available. Bhupesh was leading with a margin of 25459 votes securing 77422 against his nearest opponent Motilal Sahu who was at the figure of 51963. Nine candidates were in fray from Patan seat. Shakuntala Sahu of Chhattisgarh Janata Congress scored 11730; Durga Jha of AAP scored 455; Ram Prasad Kosle of Rashtriya Jansabha Party got 566 votes; Dinesh Kumar Kurre of Ambedkarite Party of India secured 720 votes; Independent candidate Harish Chandra Sahu secured 424 votes; Haider Bhati (Ind) got 1330 votes while Tikendra Verma (Ind) secured 462 votes. 3642 votes were polled for NOTA.
