Bhilai, Jan 31: A legendary woman who became the most enigmatic voice of the Mahabharata, like no one else in the modern cultural history of India, Dr Teejan Bai of Bhilai, Chhattisgarh was recently conferred the Padma Vibhushan Award by the Government of India making not just the collective of SAIL, Bhilai Steel, but also the whole state of Chhattisgarh proud. The Padma Vibhushan is the second-highest civilian award of India, second only to the Bharat Ratna.
On Thursday Dr Teejan Bai was felicitated by Arun Kumar Rath, CEO, Bhilai Steel Plant at a ceremony in CEO Conference Hall, Ispat Bhavan, Bhilai, presenting a shawl, sriphal and mango sapling. Present on this occasion were senior members of the management team, officers and employees.
The collective of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant has every reason to be proud of Dr Teejan Bai. For more than three decades, Dr Teejan Bai served SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant as an employee. Almost singlehandedly, she helped transform the Chhattisgarhi folk art form of Pandvani with her rendition of the story of Pandavas in her inimitable and iconic manner at the national and international stage. She has earlier received the Padma Shree in 1988, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1995 and Padma Bhushan in 2003.
