Bhilai, Jan 24: Bhilaians participated enthusiastically in the annual Run-for-SAIL event to mark the Company Foundation Day on Thursday. Over 2200 runners in different age groups and categories participated in the event organized by the Sports, Cultural & Public Amenities Group of Bhilai Steel Plant. The 5 km run was flagged off from Jayanti Stadium, Indira Place by AK Rath, Chief Executive Officer, BSP in morning.
Present on the occasion were BP Nayak, ED (F&A), AK Kabisatapathy, ED (Projects), Manas Biswas, ED (Mines & Rowghat), Dr SK Issar, Director I/c (M&HS), SK Basar, Ed (MM), KK Singh, ED (P&A), SK Saha, GM I/c (Mills), Kamlendu Das, GM (M&U), and other general managers and senior officers of Bhilai Steel Plant, office bearers of Bhilai Mahila Samaj and a large number of sports persons.
Participants were divided into different categories: upto Class VI, Class-VII to XII, Over XII to 45 years, 46 years to 60 years in the girls/women and boys/men categories, voluntarily retired employees as well as former employees.
The race concluded at the same venue. At the conclusion of the race KK Singh, ED (P&A) presented prizes to the runners clocking the best timings. In the women’s category, Tejeshwari Sahu finished the race with the best time of 18 minutes 37.73 seconds. In the men’s category Rang Bahadur Patel took 15 minutes 10.60 seconds to record the best time. Tisha with a time of 24 minutes 37.60 seconds was the fastest in the Girls Category upto class VI while in the same age group in the Boys category, Sai Kumar Rajak clocked 20 minutes 11.67 seconds to come first.
Runners recording the best timing among all the Run-for-SAIL events organised on the day in different units of the company in the women/men category receive cash award of Rs 5000 each while for the best timers each in girl/boys category (upto class IV) there is a cash award of Rs 3000.
