Bhilai, Apr 22, 2019: Stage is all set in the district for the Lok Sabha elections scheduled on April 23 where 1938319 voters would exercise their franchise to elect their representative for the parliament from 21 candidates in the fray. Police have stepped up security arrangements to thwart any possible threat. All the election parties had reached to their respective booths till Monday evening and had started preparations to conduct voting. Polling would begin at 07:00 hrs and will come to end at 17:00 hrs.
Security has been stepped up in the district ahead of polling. Denizens felt the presence of police personnel at almost all the squares and important places. Police had intensified the checking of vehicles at almost all the places. On suspicion, the cops are checking the documents of the vehicles and also the identity of the passengers. Security measures have been highlighted and strict vigil is being kept across the district. Tight arrangements have been made at railway station, bus stands, restaurants and major centres to screen suspected troublemakers and anti-social elements. Sniffer dogs and Bomb Squad have been pressed into service for conducting checking in the public places. From the last one week, strict vigil is being maintained on hotels and lodges and the visitors’ register is being checked daily.
More than 2800 jawans / officers district police have been deployed. All the gazetted officers of District Police will conduct patrolling across their Police Station limits for the entire day. AD Squad and Quick Response Teams will be positioned at different places across the district. Elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polls.
Polling material distributed from three centers
Considering the large number of booths in the district, the polling material was distributed to the polling parties from three different centers in Durg. From the distribution centers in Durg, polling material was distributed for 1451 polling booths. There are 2184 polling booths in the Durg Lok Sabha Constituency out of which 1451 booths are in Durg while remaining booths are in Bemetara District.
Under the Durg (Urban) Assembly constituency of Durg Lok Sabha seat, 210 polling booths have been established where 1243 personnel have been deployed to conduct the elections. 1562 polling workers have been deployed in 242 polling booths of Patan assembly constituency. 1282 men have been deployed to conduct polling at 221 polling booths of Durg (Rural) assembly constituency. 953 polling workers have been deployed at 164 booths of Bhilai Nagar; 1420 personnel have been deployed at 240 booths of Vaishali Nagar assembly constituency; 1531 men have been deployed to conduct polling at 253 booths of Ahiwara assembly constituency. EVMs, VVPATs and other material were distributed to the polling parties from three centers.
Elaborate arrangements of conveyance of the polling parties were made. Route charts have been made to ensure safe and trouble free movement of the polling parties. Sufficient force has also been deployed for the security of polling teams and the polling material.
Almost all the polling parties have reached their respective polling booths till Monday evening and have launched preparations. They are going to ensure that any political campaign material is not displayed within the radius of 200 meters of the booth. The polling parties have installed posters and banners for encouraging the people to vote. The teams will also put the ‘Sign boards’ for facilitating the voters to reach their respective booths. Mock poll will be conducted in presence of political party agents before instigation of actual polling process.
Strong Room at Rungta College premises in Kurud
After conclusion of the polling on April 23, the polling parties would seal the EVMs and other material and carry the same amid tight security to the Strong Room which has been established at the premises Rungta Group of College in Kurud. The polling parties deployed in booths which come under Saja and Bemetara constituencies will deposit the sealed ballot units and control units at the Strong Room established in Bemetara.
Elaborate security arrangement has been made at the premises of Rungta College where the EVMs will be stored. Multi-tier security arrangement has been made at the Strong Room. The armed jawans will be deployed for the security of ballot units and control units at the Strong Room.
