Patan records highest 80.60% voting
Fate of 79 candidates from six constituencies of Durg district sealed in EVMs
Bhilai, Nov 20: On Tuesday, Durg District recorded average voter turnout of 69.63% in six assembly constituencies. The highest voting percentage of 80.60% was recorded in Patan constituency. Fate of 79 candidates from six different constituencies of Durg District was sealed in the EVMs after conclusion of polling on Tuesday. Overall the polling was peaceful in the district. However, there were widespread complaints of missing names in the voter list and malfunctioning of EVMs at few spots.
The high profile Patan seat recorded the highest 80.60% polling which is almost 3% lower than the previous record. Nine candidates in fray from Patan seat are Motilal Sahu (BJP); Bhupesh Kumar Baghel (INC); Shakuntala Sahu (Chhattisgarh Janata Congress); Durga Jha (AAP); Ram Prasad Kosle (Rashtriya Samajwadi Party); Dinesh Kumar Kurre (Ambedkar Party); Harish Chandra Sahu (Ind); Haider Bhaki (Ind) and Tikendra Verma (Ind).
The second highest voting was recorded in Bhilai Nagar Assembly constituency where 74.92% voters turned out to exercise their franchise for deciding the fate of fourteen candidates. The voting percentage in 2013 assembly polls was 64.12%. In this way, Bhilai Nagar registered about 10% hike in polling percentage. The candidates in fray are Prem Prakash Pandey (BJP); Devendra Yadav (Cong); Deenanath Ji Jaiswar (BSP); Mohammad Raza Siddhiqi (AAP); Enul Khan (Bhrashtachar Mukti Morcha); Thanendra (Swabhimaan Party); Mohammad Naseem (Bahujan Karmi Party); Janissar Akhtar (Rashtriya Samajwadi Party); Biju Johnson (Ind); Suresh Kumar Adil (Ind); Rampyari (Ind); Anavrul Haq (Ind); Shatrughan Prasad (Ind); and Javed Khan (Ind).
Next in the series where the voting crossed the 70% mark was Durg (Rural) constituency, where voters turned out to decide the fate of nine candidates in fray. In the year 2013, this constituency had recorded 73.05% polling. This time the polling dropped by 3%. Nine contestants in fray from Durg (Rural) are Jageshwar Sahu (BJP); Tamradhwaj Sahu (INC); Dr Balmukund Dewangan (CJC-J); Ishwari Kurre (AAP); Badri Prasad Parkar (Chhattisgarh Swabhimaan Manch); Chumman Lal Deshmukh (Ind); Satish Parakh (Ind); Balmukund Dewangan (Ind); and Jageshwar Kumar Sahu (Ind).
Durg (Urban) seat recorded 64.70% polling which was about 4% lower than the previous assembly elections. In the year 2013, the city recorded 68.16% polling. 21 candidates in fray from Durg (Urban) seat are Chandrika Chandrakar (BJP); Arun Vora (INC); Pratap Madhyani (CJC-J); Dr SK Agrawal (AAP); Baldev Singh Sahu (Swabhimaan Manch); Sujata Singh (Bharatiya Panchayat Party); Atma Ram Sahu (SVCI Communist); Sunil Kumar Markandey (Ambedkar Party); Subhash Kumar Pal (India Prajabandhu Party); Surya Narayan Sonwani (Pichda Varg Party); Brijesh Kumar Yadav (Samajwadi Party); Anup Pandey (Ind); Tameshwar Tiwari (Ind); Advocate Ram Ratan Sahu (Ind); Arun Kumar Joshi (Ind); Rajbihari Bari (Ind); Kamlesh Kumar Nagrachi (Ind); Kanchan Shendre (Ind); Brahma Tiwari (Ind); Mahelka Begum (Ind); Suresh Verma (Ind).
64.23% voters turned out in Vaishali Nagar for deciding the fate of 15 candidates. In 2013, the polling percentage here was 59.94% and accordingly there was about 5% hike in polling percentage. The candidates in fray are Vidyaratan Bhasin (BJP); BD Qureshi (INC); Manoj Kumar Pandey (CJC-J); Subedar Singh (Samajwadi Party); Anjula Bhargava (AAP); AH Siddhiqi (Ind); Shankar Sahu (Bharashtachar Mukti Morcha); Lata Nunhade (Chhattisgarh Swabhimaan Manch); Ashwini Kumar Shukla (Swabhimaan Party); Pankaj Sirsar (Ambedkar Party); Rajkishore Gupta (Ind); Yogeshwar Sahu (Ind); Hemant Chauhan (Ind); Janissar Akhtar (Ind); Nazrul Islam (Ind).
63.32% voters turned out on Ahiwara to decide the fate of 11 candidates. This constituency had registered 75.48% polling in the year 2013. A sharp fall of 12% was recorded in the polling percentage at this constituency. The candidates in fray are Sanwla Ram Dehre (BJP); Guru Rudra Kumar (INC); Shobha Ram Banjare (BSP); Ajay Kumar Ramteke (AAP); Padma Patil (SUCI); Manoj Kumar Lehre (Ambedkar Party – J); Shailendra Banjare (Shakti Sena); Gaind Lal Rai (Ind); Nand Kumar Mahilang (Ind); Rajkumar Suryavanshi (Ind); and Rambagas Bharti (Ind).
Of the six seats that went to poll in the last leg of assembly election 2018 under Durg District, there is a triangular contest between BJP, Congress and Chhattisgarh Janata Congress (Jogi) in three assembly constituencies, namely, Durg (Urban); Durg (Rural) and Vaishali Nagar. While, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the main opposition Congress were neck and neck for Bhilai Nagar, Ahiwara and Patan assembly constituencies.
