Bhilai, Feb 27, 2019: On Wednesday, 136 couples tied nuptial knots during the mass marriage function held here at Manas Bhavan in Durg. The event was organized under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojna of the state government. Women and Child Development Minister Anila Bhedia graced the ceremony as chief guest. She extended greetings to the newly married couples.
In her address, Anila stated that marriages of girls from underprivileged families are conducted under this scheme. The marriages are conducted as per the religious customs in presence of the family members. This scheme brings together the couples of different religions on a common platform and their marriages are conducted together. The brides not only get the blessings of their family members but they get the opportunity to receive greetings from several other families also. Anila further said that mass marriages protect the families from excessive expenses of marriages.
Anila presented the certificates and gifts to the newly wedded couples. The amount of monetary encouragement to the couples has been increased to Rs 25000 from Rs 15000. In the same manner, the divyang couples will get Rs One Lakh instead of Rs 50000. Anila said that the increase in the monetary assistance will be helpful for the couples to start a new life.
District Panchayat President Maya Belchandan said that the daughters are the respect and dignity of two families. Divisional Commissioner Dilip Wasnikar showered his blessings on the newly married couples and spoke about the activities of Women and Child Development Department. District Collector Ankit Anand and other top officials of district administration were present.
