Durg, Jan 31: Minister of Agriculture and Parliamentary Affairs, Ravindra Choubey attended the annual day celebrations of Government Science College (VYT Post Graduate College) as chief guest on January 30. The Minister distributed medals and mementos to students who obtained top positions of excellence in the academic session. Besides he also honoured the students with medals and citations for bringing fame to the college in sports and various other activities. The Higher Education Minister of the state Umesh Patel presided over while Arun Vora from Durg (urban) was present as special guest.
Addressing the annual day celebration, the Minister recollected his days in college and stated that he started his political career in 1977 from this college as president. He added that during his stint in student politics, they agitated for the issues and needs not only of the college but also of the state. During the agitation they had obtained support from the then principal and professors of the college. It was the college Principal Mr Verma who advised and taught him to move forward but at the same time maintaining full discipline. He added that he took this advice as basic mantra and since then has been progressing and following the same principles for success in life. Whatever success he has achieved in life till date is dedicated to the professors.
The Minister further added that he felt proud to be a part of the celebrations of the annual day and added that the stage on which he stood as guest is the one from where 41 years ago he participated in the student’s union election for the post of president. Referring to the glorious history of the college, he said that the college has set up many notable contributions since its inception. In the college, along with academic activities, social activities have also been given due importance. He urged the students studying in the college at present to have imagination and picture about what the state should be and how to contribute in its development. Encouraging the students, he said that always respect the gurus. Follow their stated path. Work hard with complete perseverance and set goals to achieve success in life.
Presiding over the programme, Higher Education Minister Umesh Patel said that this college is one of the best colleges in the state. This is the only college in state to have been accredited with A-Plus grading by NAAC. Recalling his student life, he said that there is opportunity to do a lot in college life. He said that due to lack of proper grievance redressal system in the colleges, the students so far have been unable to keep forth their demands before the administration. He assured that very soon a proper system would be developed to understand and address the problems being faced by the students. The students would then be able to discuss needs and requirements with the college administration. A help desk will be arranged in all the colleges of the state from the coming academic sessions through which college students will be able to keep their point of view. He extended his best wishes to the students, and adviced them too to remember the basic mantra of hard work and discipline to achieve the goal.
Arun Vora, the special guest said that there is great power in the blessings of teachers. With the blessing of teachers, there is an opportunity to move forward in life. One should always respect the gurus akin to the respect given to the parents. He added that college term is invaluable as it determines the person’s future. On this occasion, the college Principal Mr Siddiqui, other faculty members and a large number of students were present.
