Bhilai, Aug 23, 2018: In a significant development in the anti-naxal operations of the state, Chhattisgarh Police have succeeded in persuading a hardcore red rebel to surrender and join the main stream. The three states of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh had announced a total of Rs 47 lakh reward on his head. The naxal leader Pahaad Singh alias Kumar Sai alias Ram Mohammad Singh Toppo surrendered before Inspector General of Police (Durg Range) GP Singh. He was currently holding Secretary’s position in the Gondia – Rajnandgaon – Balaghat (GRB) Divisional Committee of the banned organisation. At the same time he was the members of proposed Madhya Pradesh – Maharashtra – Chhattisgarh (MMC) Special Zonal Committee (SZC). Considering his oratory skills and convincing capacity, he was entrusted the significant responsibility of constituting this SZC.
Addressing media persons at 32-Bungalows in Bhilai, IGP (Durg Range) GP Singh claimed that Pahaad Singh’s surrender was a major blow to the naxal movement not only in Chhattisgarh but also in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. He was aggrieved with the prejudiced behavior of naxal leaders and the contradictions in precept and practice. Pahaad has reconfirmed the fact that the local cadres in naxal organization are being exploited by the higher leaders who are based on Andhra and Maharashtra.
Singh informed that Pahaad Singh got influenced with naxal ideology in the year 1991. He worked as school teacher for few years and later in the year 1999 he joined the banned Maoist organization as member of Peoples Gorilla Army. Being an educated person with excellent oratory skills, he gradually got elevated to different positions in the naxal organization. Later he realized that the naxal leaders based in Andhra and Maharashtra are exploiting the local cadre, who were mostly tribals. After getting offer from Chhattisgarh Police to surrender, he made up his mind and joined the main stream. Police are looking forward to extract vital information regarding the Maoist organization from the surrendered naxal.
