Addressing the ‘Dial 112’ staff and all the Gazetted Officers of the district police, ADG RK Vij spoke about the objectives of this emergency response system. He spoke about the expected working on the part of the concerned staff. Vij detailed about the entire system of ‘Dial 112’ to the cops and gave significant directions to them. It needs to be mentioned here that the citizens of the state will soon be able to get help using “Dial 112’, for all emergency services including the police, fire brigade and ambulance. The state is gearing up to introduce the common emergency helpline under Nationwide Emergency Response System (NERS) project of Centre. The Durg District Police is also making arrangements on its part for ensuring effective implementation of the project.
The common emergency number 112 would be mapped with the Police Helpline Number ‘100’. At present, one has to dial different numbers for ambulance services; disaster response, fire brigade, police assistance etc. All these emergency numbers would be merged in Dial 112. Central Control and Command of “Dial 112”, code named as C4, will receive all the emergency calls. The information would be communicated to the Call Dispatcher who will decide the kind of service required and accordingly send the Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) to the said place. 112 ERV would reach the spot and take actions according to need.
‘Dial 112’ programme is almost similar to the ‘Dial 911’ emergency response system which exists of USA. The telecom service providers would connect the call even of the subscriber does not have sufficient balance or if the services are withheld due to some or the other reason. Dial 112 system would be able to trace location of the telephone or mobile devices from which call has been made. The response team would use this location information if required.
