Bhilai, Aug 18, 2018: Acting on the directives of Election Commission of India, Durg Range Police has launched its preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in the state. On Saturday, Durg Range IGP GP Singh chaired a meeting with the top brass of all the five districts of his range and gave necessary directions in this regard. Police Superintendents of Durg, Balod, Bemetara, Rajnandgaon and Kabirdham attended the meeting held at IGP office in 32-Bungalows. Singh sought feedback about the previous elections and directed the SPs to consider the previous troubles while making preparations for the upcoming elections.
IG asked the SPs to launch preparations right now for ensuring safe and peaceful elections in their districts. He asked the SPs to visit each and every polling booth and collect information regarding its location, situation of the building, distance from district head quarters, connectivity, security, etc. On the basis of available personnel and infrastructure in their respective districts, the SPs were asked to send proposals for additional personnel and other requirements to Head Quarters. Due to security reasons, the SPs can send proposal to Election Commission for changing the venue of election booths.
SPs were further directed to prepare work plan regarding holding area, accommodation, transportation, logistics support, communication devices, etc which shall be provided to the CRPF and other security forces which would be deployed during the elections. For the purpose, the District Police should establish coordination with the concerned stake holder departments.
IGP emphasized on applying Proactive Policing instead of Reactive Policing. The troublemakers at every area should be pointed out and action should be taken against them in advance. He directed to adopt zero tolerance policy against the anti-social elements and take action against them under the Prohibitory Sections of IPC, Minor Acts, MV Act.
The SPs were asked to conduct extensive and regular checking of hotels, lodges, dhabas, railway stations, bus stands and other public places. All the licensed fire arms possessed by civilians should be deposited in the police stations. The naxal infested districts of Kabirdham, Rajnandgaon and Balod were asked to remain on special alert. The SPs were asked to conduct meeting with the SPs of districts for neighbouring states which share borders with Kabirdham and Rajnandgaon. Joint operations could be conducted to curb naxal activities during election period. The SPs were directed to conduct area domination and conduct anti-naxal operations. They were further directed to enhance vigil and information network. For disposing off the election related complaints, separate Cells were constituted at every district. Election Control Room will also be established at every district for maintaining watch, collecting information and controlling the election related activities.
